Relationship check

Identical twins have basically identical genomes. And because a child inherits one half of their chromosomes from their parent, one half of their genomes will be identical. Siblings share half their genomes (alleles) overall, but one fourth of their genome is expected to be identical. In this way, we can compare the relationship between two individuals based on how much of their genome is shared.

As family relationships become more distant, it may not be possible to differentiate between some family relationships based on genetic data alone, and a relationship check may sometimes be inconclusive.
