raw genotype data to download
The deCODEme genetic scan consists of two files, a data file and a header file, compressed into a single zip archive. The size of the compressed archive is approximately 10Mb while the size of the uncompressed data file is approximately 33Mb.
The data file is a csv (comma separated values) file containing a list of all the SNPs in the genetic scan that passed our quality tests. This is a text file that can be opened in text editors and some programs capable of reading the csv format, for example Microsoft Excel.
Note however that due to the size of the file (more than one million lines) many programs may have problems opening the entire file. Microsoft Excel 2003 and earlier versions will for example only read the first 65,536 lines of the file while Microsoft Excel 2007 can handle the entire file.
The header file is a small text file containing important information about the data file such as the version of the reference sequence used to place the SNPs in the human genome as well as the source of known SNPs .
Currently we use the Cambridge Reference Sequence (CRS) for the mitochondrial DNA and the Human NCBI Build 36 for the remaining genome as a reference sequence and we use dbSNP 128 as a list of known SNPs. The header file contains also some signatures that can be used to validate the contents of the data file.
As you know, deCODE is committed to protecting your privacy and genetic data within the deCODEme system, but once you download the raw data, the responsbility for safeguarding it becomes your own.
