Male line information: Y-group T
0.8% of deCODEme users are a member of this group.
All members of Y-group T can trace their Y-chromosomes back to one man who is thought to have lived about 30 thousand years ago, possibly in Western Asia. This man may have belonged to a group of hunter-gatherers, who were among the descendants of the first modern humans to migrate from Africa to Eurasia. They may initially have made their home in Iran or southern Central Asia. Today, members of Y-group T are primarily found in the Middle East, North and West Africa and Europe, but at very low frequency.
Note that Y-group T was previously called K2 and was previously classified under Y-group K* in deCODEme. The name was changed to accord with the latest developments in the scientific literature.
