Male line information: Y-group H
<0.5% of deCODEme users are a member of this group.
All members of Y-group H can trace their Y-chromosomes back to one man, who is thought to have lived about 30 to 40 thousand years ago, probably in Asia. This man belonged to a group of hunter-gatherers most likely located in Central or South Asia, whose ancestors migrated from Africa thousands of years before.
Today, members of Y-group H are found in the peoples of Central Asia and various Indian tribes, with relatively high frequencies among the Chenchu and Koya tribes of India. Members of Y-group H are rare elsewhere, except among the Romani people (Gypsies), where 30 percent of males belong to Y-group H, linking them to an ancient homeland in India.
